The IT Centre is open to individuals, community organisations and businesses

The IT Centre in Castle Douglas was established late in 1996 as a result of an initiative by Dumfries and Galloway Council and the management committee of the town’s Community Centre in Cotton Street.

Two years later, a voluntary Board of Directors was created, with the IT Centre being formally structured as a charity.

The Centre has remained in its original premises in the Community Centre on Cotton Street, Castle Douglas, although training activity also takes place in other towns and villages in the Stewartry and neighbouring parts of Dumfries and Galloway. These are user-friendly premises with a stair lift for the less able and disabled access.

The IT Centre is open to individuals, community organisations and businesses and works to:
  • enhance workplace and related skills;
  • increase levels of employability;
  • encourage progress on to further learning;
  • minimise the digital divide;
  • reduce rural isolation and marginalisation.
